Course Details

The Security Guard Course is required if you want to obtain the SIA Security Guarding Licence which allows you to work in the private security industry as a Security Officer. Security Officers usually work in a wide variety of roles including static guarding, manned guarding, key holding etc.

Note: As per SIA(Security Industry Authority) announcement the Door Supervisor and Security Professionals are required to have Emergency First Aid at Work training and certificate. If you don’t have a 1 year valid Emergency First Aid at Work Certificate you can checkout our Security Guard and First Aid at Work Course

NOTE: If you are considering this qualification, we strongly recommend that you take the SIA Door Supervisor course instead, which qualifies you to work both as a professional Door Supervisor and a Security Guard.
It is important to understand that Security Guard licence holders cannot work in licensed premises. We, therefore, continue to advise taking up the SIA Door Supervisor licence course as it is a better investment with wider job prospects.

Course Assessment

On completion of the course, the candidate will have to take three multiple-choice exams.
Examinations are usually a cause of worry amongst many, and there is no need to worry. Everything required for the examination is covered in the Security Guard course and an expert instructor will fully assist the candidate for the tests.

Roles and responsibilities of a Security Guard or Security Officer
As per the Private Security Industry Act 2001, a Security Officer, sometimes called a Manned Guard, is anyone who carries out any of the following tasks:

General duties of Security Guard.

The first 3 units of both these qualifications are the same but Door Supervisors learn an additional unit (Physical Intervention). This additional unit allows them to work in more roles while also enabling them for Security Guarding roles.

*** We strongly recommend all our students who are considering the Security Guard training course to consider the Door Supervisor Training Course instead. Qualified Door Supervisors can legally work in all of the same roles as Security Guards. In addition, they can also work in licensed premises such as bars, clubs, events and festivals, which Security Guards may not be able to work in because alcohol is served. A Door Supervisor qualification will enable candidates to perform a wider variety of roles and will greatly increase their chances of finding employment. ***

Frequently Asked Questions

This SIA recognised Level 2 Award for Security Guarding will enable you to apply for an SIA Security Guard licence. By obtaining this licence, you will increase your employment opportunities.

The aim of this course is achieve a Level 2 Award in Security Guarding. When you have gained this, you will be eligible to apply for a Security Guard SIA licence. To work as an SIA Door Supervisor or an SIA Security Guard in the UK you must hold a valid SIA licence issued by the Security Industry Authority (SIA).

If you would like to work as a Security Guard in the UK, then this course is for you. When you complete this course, you will be able to apply for Security Guard roles in the Security Industry. It is important to be aware that with this qualification you will not be allowed to work as a Door Supervisor because physical intervention is not taught on this course. This makes Door Supervisor course more valuable and appealing to employers when you are applying for jobs.

A normal Security Guard cannot do all the activities that a Door Supervisor can do. Also, in the future, if you need to work as a door supervisor you would need to spend further on the training as well as the licensing fee to SIA for the door supervisor license. On the contrary, a Door Supervisor besides performing their duties can also perform the duties of a normal Security Guard. The choice is yours but in our opinion, the door supervisor qualification is a much better career prospect. The SIA license price is same for both qualifications.  For more information on the Door Supervisor course click here General duties of Security Guard
